EXCLUSIVE: 100th anniversary Disney animated film is coming to Digital, 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD and we've got the details, from the date to extras.
Disney’s Wish is coming home and we’ve got the exclusive info here at Fandom. The 62nd feature film from Walt Disney Animation Studios will arrive on Digital on January 23 and then be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on March 12.
Directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthor, Wish is notable as the movie made to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Disney. Animation Chief Creative Officer Jennifer Lee (who co-directed the Frozen films), writing the script with Allison Moore, came up with a film that would embrace and celebrate core elements of Disney animation history, as Asha (Ariana DeBose) faced off with Magnifico (Chris Pine) after learning that the seemingly benevolent king – who collects the wishes of his people of Rosas under the guise of protecting and occasionally granting them – has a far darker side than it appeared.
For those whose preferred format for physical media is 4K Ultra HD, take note: Wish’s 4K UHD release will be exclusive to Walmart, and is only available in Steelbook packaging.
Wish’s home release comes with a bevy of bonus features, including a Sing-Along version of the film, a guide to the film’s Easter eggs and references, outtakes, and a deleted song, “A Wish Worth Making,” which would have been sung by Asha’s grandfather, Sabino (Victor Garber), plus the terrific 100th anniversary celebration short, Once Upon a Studio.
But the centerpiece is a documentary, 100 Years In The Making, which gives a deep dive into the making of Wish, broken up into nine different segments focused on everything from what exactly defines a Disney film to the return of a classic-style villain after several films hadn’t included a traditional bad guy. Check out an exclusive clip from 100 Years in the Making above, as the filmmaking team discusses the very concept of wishes and the major influence Walt Disney had on them as they worked on the film.
