Members of the Tamil Nadu Government Employees’ Association were arrested by the police when they tried to stage a 24-hour-long dharna pressing for a charter of demands here on Monday.
Association secretary K. Karuppaiah, said the protest for the 20-point charter of demands was part of a State-wide agitation. However, the police denied them permission in the morning and arrested them when they began the dharna.
Among the important demands was scrapping of new pension scheme and disbursement of dues pending due to freezing of dearness allowance and suspended leave salary for 21 months.
Besides, the association also wanted to regularise the 41-month period of termination of service as per the direction of Madras High Court.
Association president P. Pandidurai was present.
