The Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry has given a thumbs-up to the Budget proposals, aligning with key insights from the Economic Survey. Chamber president S. P. Kamath, in a statement, welcomed the government’s initiative to rationalise customs duty on marine products, recognising it as a significant boost for the industry.
He said that the reduction in tariff rates in Customs should help the cost of imports and that the exemption extended to shipbuilding units should be welcomed by Kerala, as it would directly benefit Cochin Shipyard. The Chamber also added that the direct tax proposals provide the biggest boost for the middle class, particularly by increasing the exemption limit to ₹12 lakh.
