Kerala man allegedly slits mother’s throat under drug influence

A woman was seriously injured after her son allegedly slit her throat at their house near Marappalam Junction in TTI ward of Eriyad panchayat of Kodungalloor taluk, Thrissur, in Kerala, on Sunday (February 9, 2025) night.

The Kodungalloor police have taken into custody the accused, Muhmmad, 24. His arrest would be soon recorded and he would be produced before the court, said the police.

The injured, identified as Seenath, 53, underwent a surgery at the Kottayam Medical College following the incident that happened around 8.30 p.m.

Reportedly, Muhammad acted under the influence of drugs.

Aseem P.K., TTI ward member, said the accused had similarly attacked his father, Jaleel, three years ago. Jaleel was rescued by the timely intervention of a neighbour. A case was registered against him at that time.

On Sunday night, the mother was busy cooking when Muhammed allegedly attacked her from behind. Upon hearing her screams, a neighbour came to the house and he managed to rescue her despite Muhammed being violent.

She was initially rushed to a nearby hospital, from where she was referred to the Government Medical College, Ernakulam. She was later taken to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital.

The family had moved to Eriyad from Kuzhupilly in Ernakulam district some five or six years ago. “Muhammad had little contacts here. He used to frequent Kuzhupilly and often returned in an intoxicated state,” said Mr. Aseem.
