Youth arrested for attacking nurse on hostel premises in Coimbatore

Race Course police in Coimbatore on Monday arrested a 24-year-old man who attacked a nurse with a knife outside her hostel attached to a private hospital in the city on Sunday.

A. Sujith, 24, a resident of Amman Kovil Second Street in Nagercoil, was arrested based on a complaint lodged by a security guard of the hostel.

According to the police, the victim aged 22-year-old from Kanniyakumari district works at the private hospital in the city.

Sujith, a wall painter by occupation, told police that he had been in a relationship with the woman for four years and that she had stopped responding to his calls and messages for nearly a week.

He arrived in Coimbatore on Sunday and reached the hostel at around 5 p.m. He met the victim and got into a heated argument with her, following which he took out a knife and attempted to stab her. The woman, however, blocked the attacker with her hands and suffered a cut, the police said.

As the woman shouted for help, security guards rushed to the spot and secured the youth. He was handed over to the police. He was produced before a court and was sent to judicial remand on Monday.
