An FIR was registered against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and unidentified members of his party on Tuesday on charges of insulting religious beliefs, promoting hatred between groups, and spreading false information, among others, over his claim regarding the “poisoning” of the Yamuna river water by the Haryana government.
The case was registered at the Shahbad police station in Kurukshetra following a court order based on a plea by an area resident.
The complainant alleged that Mr. Kejriwal had made the claim with the “intent to outrage the religious feelings of Hindu devotees”.
The FIR states that the AAP chief levelled the allegation despite being fully aware that “such statements would lead to public unrest and riots”.
