Visitors throng botanical garden in Puducherry as L-G and CM inaugurate three-day farm fest in U.T.

The sprawling Botanical Garden in Puducherry has turned into a kaleidoscope of colours with the commencement of the annual farm fest on Friday evening. Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy jointly inaugurated the 35th edition of the fest in the presence of a large number of visitors.

Organised annually by the Agriculture department, the fest showcases ornamental flowers, vegetables, cut flowers, pot culture plants, hybrid vegetables and fruits. Around 36,000 plants of 19 varieties, such as Balsam, Calendula, Celosia, Coleus, Cosmos, Dahlia, Marigold, French Marigold, Petunia, Salvia, Bougainvillea, Snapdragon, Verbena, Vinca, Zinnia and Tythonia, all produced by the Horticulture wing of the Agriculture department, are on display at the fest. 

Institutes, such as Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education and Research, Agricultural Technology Management Agency of Puducherry, Indian Institute of Horticulture Research of Bengaluru and National Research Centre of Banana, Tiruchi have set up stalls at the fest. Prominent horticulture nurseries have established shops for sale of seeds, plants, fertilizers and pots. Technical seminars and cultural events form part of the three-day event. The expo would be open for the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
