Visakhapatnam police arrest another prime accused in the cricket betting case in Goa

The city police continue investigate into the cricket betting racket and arrested another prime accused who was allegedly involved in it, here on Saturday. A special team of police has nabbed the accused in Goa and brought him to Visakhapatnam. With the arrest, so far the police have arrested 12 persons.

Recently, the police have arrested kingpin A.S. Varma. whom they termed as A1 in the case, and the person who was arrested on Saturday was A2, named SK Jilani.

The other accused were L. Ravi Kumar, G. Ramana, K. Srinivasa Rao, G. Mahesh, M. Ramakrishna, A. Srinadh, K. Simran Jyotsing, K. Kamalnadh, D. Raju and S. Satish

A few weeks ago, a team from city task force (CTF) had raided an apartment at the Doctors Colony, Peda Waltair, where they arrested a person and busted a cricket betting racket. The police have found that the accused were organising offline and online cricket betting. In the investigation, the police have also found that over 137 bank accounts were used in the bettings and transactions worth around ₹400 crore were made through them.

For the first time, the city police have involved cybercrime personnel in the case to make use of technology and nab the accused.

Acting on a tipp-off, the police have arrested the 12 accused so far. The police said that still several members of the betting gang, punters, account suppliers and a few others involved are yet to be nabbed.
