The Ernakulam Rural police have arrested two more suspected irregular migrants from Bangladesh, bringing the total number of such migrants detained this month within the rural limits to seven.
The arrested are Rubina, 20, and Kulsum Akhtar, 23, of Barisal in Bangladesh. They were nabbed from Kodanad under the ongoing ‘Operation Clean’ campaign. The police claimed to have seized fake Aadhaar cards from them.
Reportedly, the two had been in Kerala since February, 2024. They had crossed the border to West Bengal, where they secured the fake Aadhaar cards with the assistance of agents, according to the police.
The police are investigating residents who helped them here. The drive against illegal migrants was launched by District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) Vaibhav Saxena. A woman arrested from Bengal Colony in Perumbavoor was the first to be nabbed as part of the drive. This was followed by more arrests from Angamaly and Perumbavoor, and fake identity documents were reportedly seized from them.
The police have asked the public to pass on information about irregular migrants to the number 99952-14561.
