The Anti-Narcotics Squad arrested two youngsters with 28.13 grams of MDMA during a flash inspection at Kunnamangalam on Wednesday (February 5). The suspects— P.K. Shahul Hameed, 28, and P.P. Athul, 28, were detained at a lodge, where they were reportedly planning to resell the smuggled drug from Bengaluru.
According to the police, the two mainly targeted schoolchildren and college students in Kunnamangalam and Karanthur. They have previously been held for multiple drug trafficking cases in Kozhikode district.
It was a tip-off received by the Kunnamangalam police that led to the flash inspection in the lodge. The two, reportedly addicted to synthetic drugs, had been under surveillance for weeks after complaints from residents.
Anti-Narcotics Squad officers said they had recently intensified surveillance at railway stations, bus stands, malls, beaches, and educational institutions to track suspected drug pushers. The operations were being conducted under the direct supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Arun K. Pavithran.
