Two migrant workers were killed and one injured after coming into contact with an illegal power line running through a farmland here in Harur on Saturday.
The victims were working as labourers in a poultry farm in Sikkalur near Harur. Two workers, Uttamghatta, 22, and Pavithrasanthiran, 25, were walking through farmland when they both stepped on an illegally electrified power line. Uttamghatta was killed on the spot, while Pavithrasanthiran was injured. According to police, the injured Pavithrasanthiran had fetched Uttamghatta’s father Abhiramghatta from the poultry farm. Abhiramghatta (46), who had gone to find his son’s body also stepped on the wire and was killed on the spot. The bodies were recovered by Harur police and the injured Pavithrasanthiran was admitted to Harur government hospital for treatment.
The accused persons Kaaturaja and Viji, who had taken the land on lease and illegally set up the electric line were arrested and remanded.
