A two-day conference on ‘Gender equity: Need for sustainable development’ will begin at Mangalore University on February 3.
Organised by the UGC centre for Women Studies at the university, the first day of the conference will deliberate upon three topics— ‘role of media in promoting awareness on gender issues’, ‘gender inclusive curricula and pedagogy’, and ‘legal frameworks to address gender based violence and discrimination.’
The second day of the conference will discuss on ‘women leadership in corporate sector, challenges and avenues’, ‘mental health and well being, a gender sensitive approach’, and ‘policy and governance- integrating gender equity in to public policy for sustainable development’. In addition there will be a session on ‘breast cancer’, on Tuesday.
A panel discussion on ‘gender equity for sustainable development, a multi-disciplinary approach’ will be organised on the last day of the conference.
Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor P.L. Dharma will preside over the conference. Sabiha Bhoomi Gowda, a former Vice-Chancellor of Akkamahadevi University, Vijayapura, and Nazma Farooqi, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Mangaluru will be guests at the inaugural session, a release said.
