Traffic policeman held for sexual assault on minor girl

A traffic police constable has been arrested by the All Women Police, Mylapore, for alleged sexual assault on a 13-year-old girl who had approached him for assistance. He had committed the act at a police booth after promising to give her protection.

According to sources, the 13-year-old girl went missing from home on January 25. Her mother lodged a complaint with the police the next day. Following this, the police conducted an investigation and found the girl with a 16-year-boy who had left his home. After analysing call records, the police traced them in Cuddalore district and brought them to the city. Investigation revealed that she was sexually assaulted by the boy.

On further investigation the police found that she was assaulted by a traffic constable too. Sources said that on the night of January 25, the girl went to the boy’s house but his mother refused to allow her inside. Having nowhere to go, she was wandering in Mylapore in the late hours. The police constable who was on duty spotted her and took her in a police vehicle after assuring her that he would take her to her mother. As per the minor’s confession, he sexually assaulted her in a police vehicle and a booth.

The police arrested the constable identified as Raman, the minor boy and her mother on charges under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The woman knew that the girl had gone with her son to Cuddalore but failed to pass the information to the police.
