TPCC president and MLC B. Mahesh Kumar Goud accused the main Opposition party, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of spreading false information about the caste survey. He cautioned leaders of Backward Classes (BC) associations against falling prey to such propaganda.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, Mr. Mahesh Kumar said the decades-long dream of the Backward Classes and the demand for sub-classification of Scheduled Castes (SC) had finally come true. This achievement was made possible by the special initiatives taken by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and his Cabinet colleagues.
Mr. Mahesh Kumar criticised the Opposition parties for their claims about the caste survey, emphasising the need for constructive criticism that benefits the Backward Classes. “The caste census was conducted most scientifically and transparently since Independence,” he said, rejecting the Opposition parties’ claims as false. He also accused them of attempts to sabotage the entire exercise aimed at benefiting the BC people. Meanwhile, the PCC chief also warned of disciplinary action against those who make statements crossing the party line, hinting at action against MLC Teenmar Mallanna for his comments on the caste census report.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar questioned the BRS leaders’ commitment to BC welfare, alleging that BC leader Eatela Rajender was expelled for raising his voice for rights within the party. He pointed out that BRS leaders had no moral right to comment on the State government’s efforts to help BCs, as former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his son MLA K.T. Rama Rao had failed to share their information with the enumerators during the survey.
Minister Konda Surekha also flayed the BRS leaders for staging a walkout during the Assembly discussion on the caste census. She urged the Backward Classes (BCs) to reject conspiracies against the caste census. She criticised the previous BRS government for neglecting the welfare of BCs and asserted that the current government, under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has taken up the BC caste census to address this long-standing issue.
Ms. Surekha further stated that the government had allowed discussions on the caste census statement in both the Assembly and Legislative Council. She condemned the BRS legislators for walking out in the middle of these crucial discussions, questioning their commitment to BC welfare. She pointed out that during the BRS regime, even though a comprehensive family survey was conducted, no concrete measures were taken for BCs, nor was any report released. She accused the BRS of misleading the public through negative propaganda on social media platforms and warned that opposing the caste census would ultimately harm the BC communities’ interests.
