Members of the Tamil Nadu Government Employees’ Association (TNGEA) went on a 24-hour dharna in front of the Collector’s Office here on Monday to press for their charter of demands including implementation of the Old Pension Scheme.
The association demanded entitlements including 21 months pay revision arrears, freeze arrears, and suspended surrender leave.
“Our demands have not been addressed for a very long time, and if is not not fulfilled we warn the protest will be severed in the following days,” said L. Vijayaramalingam, district president, TNGEA.
Due to several vacancies in the government sector, the work burden has to be borne by the existing staff, he added.
In addition to bearing the heavy workload, employees are instructed to attend meetings or conferences very often on their holidays, he stated.
“Review meeting or other official visits, which are scheduled mostly on leave days, should be scheduled on working days,” Mr. Vijayaramalingam.
