All 33 districts of Telangana experienced rising temperatures on Monday with maximum readings ranging between 35° and 38° Celsius.
According to officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the increase in mercury during February is a recurring phenomenon and is expected to persist until the end of the month.
“The increase in temperatures during February is normal. This month acts as a transition period where hot winds arrive from all directions. Unlike other months, February does not have a dominant wind flow from a single direction. The shifting wind patterns, primarily easterly and south-easterly winds, cause a gradual rise in temperatures. This phase will continue until the end of the month, and from the first week of March, we will begin to see stable winds, marking the official onset of summer,” said A. Dharma Raju, scientist from the IMD Hyderabad Centre.
Dr. Dharma Raju also pointed out that while February has always witnessed a gradual rise in temperatures, increased awareness and media reporting in recent years have contributed to the perception that summer has arrived earlier than usual.
Data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) indicates that Endapalli in Jagtial recorded the highest maximum temperature of 37.6° Celsius. It was followed closely by Adilabad, Choppadandi in Karimnagar, Kouthala in Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Khanapur in Nirmal, and Yadagirigutta in Yadadri Bhongir, all of which reported a maximum of 37.5°Celsius. In Hyderabad, Amberpet recorded a temperature of 35° Celsius.
