Teenage student’s death: Detailed statement taken from parents

The police team that is probing the death of a 14-year-old boy in Thripunithura after he reportedly jumped from the 26th floor of his apartment earlier this month, collected detailed statements from his parents on Sunday (February 2).

His parents had in a complaint to the State Police Chief alleged that their son who was studying in a prominent school in the city, was bullied and brutally ragged by his schoolmates.

The fresh collection of statements was done in the wake of fresh revelations in the case. The police are also gathering electronic evidence in order to substantiate the allegations raised by the parents, it is learnt.

In the meantime, the management of the school in the city where the student was studying earlier has suspended its vice principal, pending enquiry. “This is to ensure a thorough and impartial probe by the school and relevant authorities into the recent incident involving our former student. This is to ensure our school’s commitment to uphold the highest standards of safety, discipline and well-being of our learners. The school reiterates its core values of maintaining a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for all learners while ensuring that due process is followed for all individuals involved,” the school said in a press release.
