Technology has democratised the media space, Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services Palanivel Thiaga Rajan said here on Friday.
Speaking at the ‘Media Futures Conference Series’, organised by the Department of Journalism and Communications, University of Madras and RandomWalk, he said: “We have seen what artificial intelligence (AI) can do; it can be creative, and it has the capability to be augmentative and better the performance of individuals or companies by providing a supporting mechanism. All these can make for a good or not-so-good outcome.”
With AI-augmented learning, there is so much information to show that if one has a loop with a good AI assistant, the ability to correct learning shortfalls in schools is much better than having a human being evaluate papers, he said. S. Elumalai, registrar, University of Madras, said AI was like a double-edged sword, and we would do well to optimally use the positive aspects of it.
T.R. Gopalakrishnan, associate professor and head of the Department of Journalism and Communication, University of Madras, S. Armstrong, professor and head, Centre for the Endangered Languages, University of Madras, and Ashish Khan of RandomWalk also spoke.
