The Telugu Desam Party consolidated its hold on the municipal corporations and municipalities in the State where elections were held for the posts of Deputy Mayors, Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons, on Monday.
Independent candidate Syed Tahseen was elected Deputy Mayor of Nellore Municipal Corporation with the solid backing of TDP councillors.
The ruling party registered an emphatic win in Hindupur municipality as its candidate Ramesh Kumar was elected chairman with the support of 21 councillors and MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna and MP B.K. Parthasarathi.
TDP candidates Pappu Umamaheswara Rao and V. Durga Bhavani were elected Deputy Mayors of Eluru Municipal Corporation.
The Deputy Mayor election of Tirupati has been postponed to February 4 for want of quorum and the Vice-Chairman election in Piduguralla was also put off to the same date as above due to technical reasons.
State Election Commissioner Nilam Sawhney said in a press release that the election process had been completed in all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) for which notification was issued, except Tirupati Municipal Corporation, Nandigama, Tuni and Piduguralla Municipalities, and Palakonda Nagar Panchayat.
