Twelve years after arrest in a graft case, the then Assistant Engineer attached to Tangedco (Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited) office in Udumalpet was on Wednesday sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for three years in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Cum Special Judge in Tiruppur.
S. Muthukrishnan (59) was caught red-handed on July 3, 2013, by a Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) team while obtaining ₹8,500 from an applicant for power connections to his new shops.
Based on the complaint lodged by K.V.Babu of JVN Nagar in Udumalpet Taluk, the DVAC police arrested Muthukrishnan under sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The Chief Judicial Magistrate also imposed fine of ₹4,000 on Muthukrishnan.
