Sub-registrar offices in Tiruchi shut as staff protest Sunday work

Work at 12 sub-registrar offices in Tiruchi was disrupted as employees boycotted work on Sunday, protesting against the forced operation on a holiday. The shutdown left several citizens, who arrived for land and marriage registrations, disappointed.

The Tamil Nadu Registration Department Employees’ Federation had earlier decided to boycott work if February 2 was declared a working day, citing concerns over mandatory holiday work without consultation. Despite official announcements that offices would be open, visitors found them shut.

The State-level coordination committee has urged the government to review policies on holiday operations. Meanwhile, affected registrations are expected to be rescheduled in the coming days.
