Stalin to inaugurate India’s largest photovoltaic cells, modules manufacturing unit

Chief Minister M. K. Stalin will inaugurate on Thursday (February 6) afternoon India’s largest photovoltaic cells and modules manufacturing plant for solar power generating units at Gangaikondan on the city outskirts.

The factory, which has been established on an outlay of ₹4,300 crore at Gangaikondan SIPCOT Industrial Growth Centre, employs over 2,000 workers including 1,200 women, all from this region. The facility produces photovoltaic cells and modules for solar power generating units of 4 GW annual capacity. This facility will also manufacture some of the raw materials required for module manufacturing.

The Chief Minister, who is camping here on Thursday and Friday to participate in various events including party meetings, will also inaugurate the Mega Food Park established at Gangaikondan on 53.36 acres at the cost of ₹77.94 crore and lay foundation stone for Vikram Solar’s 3 GW cell and module manufacturing facility, which will be one of the largest in the country with an investment of ₹1,740 crore.

After then Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami laid foundation stone for the Mega Food Park in February 2021, it has been set-up through Tamil Nadu State Agricultural Marketing Board with inner roads, electricity, water, car parking, office buildings, a 7,500 warehouse and 5,000 tonne cold storage facility. Entrepreneurs can set-up their food processing units by taking on lease the land for 94 years by taking the land at a price of ₹55 lakh per acre.

In the evening, Mr. Stalin will inaugurate the rebuilt Mahatma Gandhi Market in Palayamkottai with 439 shops and spacious parking facility and participate in the party meetings to be organised at Nehru Auditorium and Centenary Hall in Palayamkottai.

While Mr. Stalin will address the party functionaries in the meeting to be held at Nehru Auditorium to gear-up them for the Assembly Poll 2026, he will receive the cadre from various political parties including the BJP in the meeting to be held at Centenary Hall.

On Friday, the Chief Minister will meet the representatives of Maanjolai tea estate workers and inaugurate the additional block in the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital’s super specialty block, Tamirabharani – Karumaeniyar – Nambiyar linking project and lay foundation stone for the first phase of Tirunelveli west bypass road besides distributing welfare measures to the beneficiaries.

On his way to the Tirunelveli Medical College ground from the government guest house for the function on Friday morning, Mr. Stalin will hold a road show for about 5 Km. Hence, all the roads on this route, which were in the worst shape for several months with encroachments on both sides, have been re-laid and illegal structures removed.
