Siruthuli environmental organisation has made a representation to the Railways to carry out afforestation project in the railway land available in North Coimbatore, Kavundampalayam, and Singanallur railway stations.
The Siruthuli has expressed its wish to clear the railway land of debris and bushes and utilise it for afforestation activities, in a recent representation made in person to Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Southern Railways, Salem.
Working towards the goals of water resource management, afforestation, solid waste management, sewage water treatment and awareness creation for restoration of Noyyal river, Siruthuli has planted more than eight lakh trees in and around Coimbatore through various plantation programmes. About 60,300 trees had been planted after acquiring necessary permission in the past within railway land in Podanur, North Coimbatore, Peelamedu, Kavundampalayam, Singanallur, Ondipudur and Thudiyalur stations, C. Chinnasamy, Chief Operating Officer, Siruthuli, said in the letter.
In continuation with its initiative, the Siruthuli has conveyed its plans to plant 56,000 more saplings in the available land in the above-mentioned railway stations.
Responding to the request, Mr. Sivalingam had assured to inspect the locations and grant permission after determining the suitability for tree plantation activities.
