An inspector attached to a former prime minister’s security, who was then working in the CID, has been found guilty of allegedly misusing his power by the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC). The commission has ordered the state government to compensate ₹2 lakh to a city-based businessman and his assistant after the inspector allegedly detained them and seized a machinery to force them to return money they owed their business partner.
According to the complaint filed with the SHRC, the accused inspector A.D. Nagaraju, who served as inspector, CID in March 2021, allegedly detained Chandrashekhar and seized a machine worth ₹12.5 lakh to force Raju to return ₹15 lakh to his business partner who was known to Nagaraju.
According to complaint, Raju had a business deal with his friend and owed him money .
In order to recover the money, the business partner used his friend Nagaraju . As per the plan, Nagaraju allegedly went to Raju’s shop but found assistant Chandrashekhar instead . He detained Chandrashekhar and the machine and took them to his office .
This amounts to misuse of power and use of official vehicles for illegal means and that the entire seizure and detention was captured on the cctv cameras installed at the shop, the complaint said.
Even though there was no complaint nor the CID office has nothing to do with the issue, Nagaraju misuse his official power to help his friend illegally, they said. Based on the complaint filed by Raju to the SHRC, officials probed the complaint and held Najaraju guilty.
Based on the findings, the SHRC recommended the state government issue compensation of ₹1 lakh each to Raju and Chandrashekhar and also recommended necessary action against the inspector.
