Seminar explore ways to enhance yield of vegetables and fruits in Virudhunagar district

Sethu Institute of Technology organised a one-day seminar on agriculture/horticulture techniques and held a fruit expo here on Monday.

According to a press release, Collector V P Jeyaseelan delivered address online to the gathering. Founder and chairman SIT S. Mohammed Jaleel presided.

Researchers from Kovilankulam Agricultural Institute made a presentation on advanced agricultural techniques and strategies that can be employed to improve the yield of vegetables and fruits in the region.

Besides students from the agricultural engineering department, progressive farmers and horticulture experts attended the seminar. A large number of farmers also visited the expo.

The Department of Fisheries, Silk Development Board, and private sector companies set up stalls and showcased the latest advancements in their fields. The exhibits provided farmers and attendees with valuable insights into modern practices that can contribute to sustainable farming and increased productivity.

SIT CEO S.M. Seeni Mohaideen, JCEO Seeni Mohamed Aliar Maraikayar, Principal G.D. Sivakumar, Agricultural engineering department faculty members Muthu Chozharajan and S. Ayyanar and Assistant Director (Horticulture) Karthi participated. Deputy Director (Horticulture) Vasuki welcomed.

The seminar and expo not only facilitated the exchange of innovative agricultural practices but also provided an opportunity for hands-on learning through the diverse exhibits. The event was a step forward in strengthening the agricultural ecosystem of Virudhunagar and ensuring a brighter future for its farming community, the release said.
