The Salem Corporation will construct a second science park at ward 9 at a cost of ₹3.22 crore.
The first science park was constructed at Pallapatti under the Smart Cities Mission project on 13,000 sq. ft. of land at a cost of ₹5.80 crore and inaugurated in 2022. The Corporation has decided to construct a second science park in Ward 9 in Ammapet zone, and preliminary works started in this regard on Monday.
Corporation officials said that the second science park will be constructed on 1.70 lakh sq. ft. of land. It will include various facilities such as a digital screen that provides information about scientific technology, replicas of rockets, a planetarium, and other scientific displays. Additional features will consist of a math park, 76 science models, a children’s play area, and a solar-powered radio. To foster innovation, an innovation hub will also be established. The park will showcase details about rare animals along with their replicas, provide a walking path for elderly visitors, and include playground equipment for children.
The work order was issued for a contractor for the construction of the science park in Ward 9 recently. Preliminary works like levelling of the land, are in progress at the spot and construction will start soon, officially after the groundbreaking ceremony. Construction period for the park is 18 months, officials added.
