SDM Educational Society suggested to offer ‘gurukula system’ of ayurveda education

Srinivas Prasad Buduru, president, Ayurveda Board, National Commission for Indian System of Medicine, Union Ministry of AYUSH, said on Friday that Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara Educational Society, Ujire can think of imparting ayurveda education under ‘gurukula system’.

Addressing a gathering at the inaugural function of the newly constructed academic building of SDM College of Ayurveda Hospital and Research Centre of the society in Udupi Mr. Buduru said that the commission also encourages ‘gurukula system’ of ayurveda education. The society can start a separate such gurukula system of education.

Seer of Mantralaya Raghavendra Swamy Mutt Subudhendra Tirtha who inaugurated the building said that all the three ayurvedic centers of the SDM group have maintained a good reputation.

The SDM group has been instrumental in designing and implementing numerous programs across the nation aimed at preserving culture, religion, education, and ancient healthcare practices, he said adding that these initiatives have made significant strides in enhancing the well-being and cultural heritage of communities.

The society’s efforts in promoting and preserving ayurveda have greatly benefited countless individuals, providing holistic and effective healthcare solutions, he said.

D. Veerendra Heggade, president of the society and Rajya Sabha Member said that in the past, many people did not have the opportunity to study ayurveda academically. However, that is not the case now. Anyone who wishes to study ayurveda has the opportunity to do so. Ayurveda played a significant role during COVID-19 and people realised its importance.
