RMC, Chennai, to provide hands-on training on doppler weather radar

In a bid to reach out to budding technologists, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, will provide hands-on exposure to measurements and observation techniques deployed in the doppler weather radar.

The week-long programme will expose youngsters to the basic methodologies used and the measurements needed to ensure data accuracy and quality. They will learn about the RMC’s observational technologies and receive hands-on training related to the weather radar and its calibration and upkeep procedures.

A press release said students studying in technological curriculums, including electronics, electrical, communication, and instrumentation, in and around the city, researchers, project scientists, officers in government institutions are eligible for the programme. The candidates must be aged below 25 as on February 15, 2025.

Some of the topics to be covered in the programme include radar fundamentals, radar hardware design principles, maintenance and external calibration methods, and exposure to measuring devices and using them to measure parameters in the live radar.
