Retired army man dies while playing badminton near Island Grounds

A 50-year-old retired army man died while playing badminton near Island Grounds on Saturday. The Triplicane police have filed a case and are investigating. 

A senior official of the city police said J.J. Johnson Thomas was a retired colonel working in the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme section of the Secretariat and lived at the Officers’ Enclave in Island Grounds.

On Saturday evening, he was playing badminton along with his friends at the military ground located opposite the Monroe Statue on Anna Salai. He fainted as he was drinking water after a game. His friends rushed him to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH), where the doctors declared him brought dead. The Triplicane police have kept the body in the RGGGH for a post-mortem.
