A group of residents from Thirumalayampalayam Town Panchayat in Madukkarai taluk, Coimbatore, protested at the District Collector’s office on Monday, urging authorities to issue free house site pattas to long-pending applicants.

They also submitted a petition to the District Collector, which stated that 79 individuals were selected after a 15-year struggle for government-allotted pattas. However, they alleged that the Madukkarai Tahsildar was allocating pattas to individuals from other areas and those who already own houses.

The protesters pointed out that over 300 families, primarily agricultural labourers with low incomes, resided in the villages of Vazhukal, Palpathi, and Ambalapaarai. They urged the District Collector to intervene and halt the alleged diversion of pattas, ensuring that the rightful beneficiaries received their land titles.
