Ramaiah Memorial Hospital organises walkathon to raise cancer awareness

In a bid to raise awareness about cancer and promote community solidarity, Ramaiah Memorial Hospital (RMH) hosted a walkathon titled ‘Ramaiah Hope-A-Thon: Let’s Walk United to Win Against Cancer’ on Sunday. The event was part of RMH’s campaign for World Cancer Day.

The 5-km walkathon, flagged off at the hospital premises at 6 a.m., saw more than 500 participants, including hospital staff, doctors, cancer survivors, and their families. The participants, dressed in lavender t-shirts and caps, symbolising cancer awareness and hope, began the event with an energizing zumba session before setting off on their walk.

The event was inaugurated by S.C. Nagendra Swamy, president of RMH, and K. Harish, director, Ramaiah Institute of Onco Sciences and Senior Consultant in Surgical Oncology.

Dr. Nagendra Swamy emphasised that cancer care is a journey that extends far beyond just medical treatment. “This event signifies the collective strength and determination needed to fight cancer, not just through treatment, but also through awareness, support, and early detection,” he remarked.

Dr. Harish emphasised the importance of initiatives such as the ‘Ramaiah Hope-A-Thon’ in bridging gaps in cancer knowledge and empowering individuals to take control of their health.
