Ramadass urges Puducherry government to erect a statue for Gandhi in Karaikal

Former Member of Parliament and president of Puducherry Maanila Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (PMMMK) M. Ramadass has urged the government to install a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Karaikal.

In a statement issued here, Mr. Ramadass said the absence of a memorial for the Father of the Nation in the exclave was all the more conspicuous when his death anniversary was observed all across the Union Territory.

Deeming the omission unfortunate, the PMMMK leader appealed to the Puducherry government to install a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at a suitable location in front of the Karaikal Collectorate without any further delay. Failing this, Mr. Ramadass said the PMMMK would erect a statue for the late leader in Karaikal at its own expense within two months after obtaining permission from the government.
