The Kempegowda International Airport authorities got an email threatening of drone attacks on flights landing at KIA, apart from airports in “Chennai and Kerala” recently. Coming ahead of Aero India – 2025, it triggered concerns. However, security personnel followed all the Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) and later declared the email a hoax.
Mohammed Zahir, an airport staff, lodged a complaint with the International Airport Police on Sunday, in which he said the email came from [email protected]. It warned of an impending drone attack on the flights landing at Bengaluru, Chennai and Kerala airports, if he did not get a response to his letter to Haveri BJP MP and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
The police are now trying to track down the source of the email, which was intended to create panic among passengers and staff. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against an unidentified person charging him under Sections 125 (endangering safety of others), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 353 (public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 for further investigation.
