The Ayyampettai police in Thanjavur district has registered a case against a woman teacher at a private nursery school falling under its limits after she is alleged to have intentionally failed to give information regarding an incident in the school wherein a seven-year-old girl student complained to her of pain on being reportedly poked with a stick in her private part by her classmate — a minor boy.
The teacher allegedly asked the girl not to disclose to her parents about the incident which occurred in late January. The woman is a Class I teacher at the school. The girl’s parents initially took her to a local doctor after she complained of pain and subsequently to a private hospital in Tiruchi. The girl is reported to have disclosed the incident on being asked by the doctor.
The Ayyampettai police registered a case on Saturday against the teacher under Section 239 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (intentional omission to give information of offence by person bound to inform) read with Section 75 of the J.J. Act acting on a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother.
The sources said the teacher is yet to be arrested and further investigation is on.
