A 21-year-old female college student, who was kidnapped by a gang, was rescued by the police here on Saturday.

The girl, a resident of Singalandapuram near Belukurichi in the district, is studying in a private college. On Friday evening, she reached Singalandapuram by college bus and was walking home when a gang kidnapped her in a car. Her parents lodged a complaint with the Belukurichi police. The police verified CCTV cameras in the locality. Demanding speedy action, the relatives of the girl staged a road roko before the police station.

A special team rescued the college student and nabbed the six-member gang led by Tamilpandian (32), a resident of the same locality and an engineer, at Pennagaram in Dharmapuri district.
