The cybercrime police in Coimbatore have recovered ₹20.74 lakh out of ₹81 lakh lost by a man from the city in a cyber fraud in 2024.
According to the police, a 54-year-old man had lodged a complaint at the cybercrime police station in 2024, stating that he was cheated of ₹81 lakh in an online investment scam. The police registered a case and launched an investigation against the fraudsters, whose identities were not known.
The police immediately traced the bank accounts used for the transactions of the defrauded amount and contacted the respective banks for freezing the accounts. Following consistent efforts, a bank account was frozen and ₹20,74,647 was retrieved and remitted into the complainant’s bank account through orders from the court concerned, said a statement from the police.
Government portal www.cybercrime.gov.in or 1930 toll free number can be used to report cyber financial fraud and freeze fraudulent transactions.
