Police clarify illicit arrack planted at Tasmac bar over business rivalry

The district police on Wednesday clarified that the sale of illicit arracks at a Tasmac bar in Attur was deliberately orchestrated by a competitor due to business rivalry.

On Tuesday, a video went viral on social media, claiming that illicit arrack was being sold at Tasmac bar in Attur. Following this, the district police conducted an inquiry.

In a statement, the police said that G. Jothivel of Vaithiyanathapuram continued to operate a bar near Tasmac shop No. 7142 at Valayamadevi even after the expiry of its license. Similarly, Ravi, also known as Pambu Ravi, continued to run a bar near Tasmac shop No. 7145 at Narasingapuram.

The conflict arose when Jothivel attempted to operate a bar in Narasingapuram. In response, Ravi, along with his son Saran and accomplices Elango Mannan and Vinod, went to Jothivel’s bar and planted four packets of illicit arrack. They then recorded a video falsely claiming that arrack was being sold at the bar and spread misinformation.

After conducting an inquiry, the Attur Prohibition Enforcement Wing police arrested Jothivel and his associates, Sakthivel and Suresh, for running an unauthorized bar. Meanwhile, the police also arrested Ravi for bringing arrack from Kallakurichi district and spreading false information. A search is ongoing for his son and two other associates.
