The underground drainage wastewater generated in the city should be treated in every zone of Tirunelveli Corporation to be used for industrial purposes by manufacturing units in SIPCOT Industrial Growth Centre at Gangaikondan, the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) has said.

In a petition submitted to the Collector on Monday during the weekly grievances redressal meet, MDMK State deputy secretary of legal wing M.S. Sudharshan said the underground drainage wastewater getting generated in all four zones of Tirunelveli Corporation was being pumped to Ramaiyanpatti sewage treatment plant. Whenever the pipes carrying the drainage was damaged, the highly contaminated wastewater would flow into the Tamirabharani, or along the streets to pollute the river or the atmosphere. Hence, the effluents should be treated in every zone and pumped to the industries in SIPCOT Industrial Growth Centre at Gangaikondan for industrial use.

Physically challenged Rajesh of Padappaikurichi near Palayamkottai submitted a petition seeking the eviction of cattle being kept on a temple land. The youth said an individual from his village kept his domestic cattle on the land belonging to the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. He had also erected granite pillars along the temple wall to tie the cattle, which were obstructing the free flow of vehicular traffic in the village.

Hence, the Collector should instruct the HR and CE officials to remove the cattle being kept on the temple land and the granite pillars erected unlawfully for tying the domestic animals, Mr. Rajesh said.

During the grievance redressal meet, Collector R. Sukumar handed over welfare assistance (magnifier) to five visually challenged persons in the presence of District Revenue Officer M. Suganya.
