The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has written to tahlidars to issue notices to farmers whose lands have been notified for phase II of the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) between Hosur Road and Tumakuru Road. The preliminary notification for the same was issued in 2006.
According to letters accessed by The Hindu, notices will be issued to farmers to acquire land to establish a BMTC depot, a truck terminal, and other facilities.
The 55-km PPR II runs between Hosur Road and Tumakuru Road via Magadi Road and Mysuru Road. The BDA has already built a 11.6-km road between Magadi Road and Mysuru Road and construction of another 1.8 km is pending.
Recently, the High Court of Karnataka had upheld the land acquisition of a 13.5-km stretch by the BDA and directed the authority to complete the road work. Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout is located along this stretch.
However, Krishna Ramesh, a farmer whose land is also notified, said this notice does not have legal sanctity. “In 2006, BDA issued a preliminary notification for 55 km of PRR 2 but the final notification was issued only for 13.5 km between Magadi Road and Mysuru Road. How can the BDA issue notices without final notification for the same?” he asked.
Mr. Ramesh alleged that in the guise of acquiring land for the depot and other facilities, the BDA wants to establish a business corridor to serve the real estate lobby. He said this will be challenged in the court and the farmers will not part with the land.
