Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan on Sunday (February 2, 2025) said the people of Tamil Nadu would teach a lesson to the DMK and its alliance partners in the 2026 Assembly election for “acting against the interest of Hindus.”
In a statement, Mr. Murugan claimed, “A group of people is attempting to convert Thiruparankundram ‘Kandar hill,’ the first of six abodes of Lord Murugan, into ‘Sikkandar hill’. For many years, ‘Vel’ (the spear of Lord Murugan) has been taken to Kasi Viswanathar temple atop the hill. However, a few days ago, a group of people attempted to transport goats for animal sacrifice. By eating non-vegetarian food atop the hill, Ramanathapuram MP Nawas Kani had ‘spoiled’ its holiness. His conduct harmed the beliefs and customs of Hindus.”
The BJP leader questioned why the State police had not taken any action against those who ate non-vegetarian food atop the hill and “vandalised Jain caves by painting it green.” He condemned the police for preventing Hindu Munnani functionaries from organising a protest. “I condemn the anti-Hindu attitude of the Tamil Nadu police, which is trying to suppress the democratic rights of Hindus. Tamil Nadu government and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin are answerable,” he said.
