Owner, foreman booked for fireworks unit accident that claimed one life

Virudhunagar District Police have booked the owner of Sathyaprabhu Fireworks Unit, S. Mohanraj, and its foreman K. Selvakumar, 27, in connection with Wednesday’s fire accident that claimed the life of one worker and injured six others.

Vachchakarapatti police have booked the two for negligent handling of explosive substances, endangering people’s safety or life, culpable homicide not amounting to murder and under the provisions of the Indian Explosives Act.

The police accused them of having stocked higher quantity of chemicals with an objective of producing higher quantity of fireworks, which led to the accident.

The body of the deceased, V. Ramalakshmi, 50, was found amidst the rubble and one among the injured, S. Simon Daniel, suffered 100% burns in the accident.
