NBW against Baba Ramdev in Palakkad court

The Judicial First Class Magistrate II, Palakkad, has issued a non-bailable arrest (NBW) warrant against yoga guru Baba Ramdev, his aide Acharya Balkrishna, and Divya Pharmacy, the marketing arm of their Haridwar-based pharma company Patanjali Ayurved, in the misleading advertisements case.

The court had earlier issued a bailable warrant to them asking for their appearance on Saturday (February 1). However, as they failed to turn up, a non-bailable warrant has been issued. The next hearing in the case is on February 15. The same court had earlier issued a summons to them to appear before it on January 16, the failure of which led to the bailable warrant order.

The Drugs Inspector, Palakkad, filed the case in October 2024 under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. It pertains to the company’s misleading advertisements in the news media falsely claiming that Patanjali products could cure high blood pressure and diabetes. Similar cases are pending in Kozhikode and Haridwar in Uttarakhand with multiple summons issued.
