Bengaluru’s Nadajyothi Sangeetha Sabha Trust is set to mark a milestone this February as it celebrates its 60th anniversary of promoting classical music and dance.
From February 1 to February 16, the Trust will host an array of performances, bringing together both seasoned artistes and emerging talents from the world of Carnatic music, classical dance, and devotional arts.
The festivities will begin on February 1, with a Bharatanatyam performance by young dancers Kaavya Kashinath and Archana Bhat. The following day, February 2, will feature a unique dance-drama titled Sri Purandara Namana, presented by the Shanthala Arts Trust. This choreographed piece, directed by Pulikeshi Kasturi with music composed by D.S. Srivatsa, honors saint-composer Purandara Dasa.
On February 3, there will be a special devotional film on Sri Prasanna Venkatadasaru, produced by Mathambuja Movies and directed by Madhusudhan Havaldhar. This documentary-style film will delves into the life and works of the revered saint and poet.
These first three programmes will be held at Sevasadana, 14th Cross, Malleswaram, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., providing a serene atmosphere for devotees and music lovers alike.
Across two Weeks
From February 4 to February 15, the spotlight will be on a series of vocal and instrumental concerts, all held at Srirama Mandira, East Park Road, Malleswaram. The musical offerings span a wide range of performances across genres of Carnatic music.
February 4 kicks off with a vocal recital by Nagamani Srinath and her ensemble, followed by Rudrapattanam S. Ramakanth and party on February 5. February 6 will feature the vocalist R.A. Ramamani, while February 7 will see the enchanting voice of Neyveli Santhanagopalan.
For instrumental music lovers, on February 8 there will be a violin solo by A. Kanyakumari, known for her mastery of the instrument. The next day, February 9, brings a Pancharathna Keerthana Ghosti Gayana by an ensemble, followed by Devi Krithis by the Shankarabharanam group, led by the renowned vocalist S. Shankar.
Other notable performances include G. Ravikiran (February 10) in a vocal concert, Veena by Suma Sudhindra (February 11), vocal by Baby Sriram from Chennai (February 12) on and T.S. Sathyavathi (February 13) in another vocal recital. Shashank Subramanyam will present flute recital on February 14, while Bangalore Brothers Hariharan and Ashok will delight fans with their vocal duet on February 15.
A grand finale
The celebrations will culminate with a vocal concert by S. Shankar and his ensemble on February 16, held at Sri Yathiraj Mutt, 11th Cross, Malleswaram.
