Member of Parliament Ganapathy P. Rajkumar criticised the Coimbatore Corporation officials during the council meeting on Friday, highlighting delays in civic projects such as the Suez 24/7 water supply project and inconsistencies in property tax assessments, particularly in the drone survey method.

He alleged that bill collectors and tax officials were misusing their authority, forcing people to pay higher amounts. “Due to these irregularities in the Corporation, the ruling party often faces criticism,” he said, urging higher authorities to ensure proper execution.

The MP strongly criticised the implementation of the Suez 24/7 water supply project, stating that the company does not follow a systematic approach in re-laying roads. “The company takes advantage of its position, acts authoritatively, and never responds to residents or councillors. They leave work incomplete, dig up another area, and leave roads damaged without providing proper house service connections. This has become a major issue,” he said. He urged the Corporation to halt the project until the damaged roads are re-laid, warning that he would organise a protest if corrective measures were not taken.

Mr. Rajkumar also raised concerns over street vendors and eateries encroaching roads, alleging that food carts sell substandard food and contribute to traffic congestion. He urged the Corporation to regulate street vendors, prevent encroachments on main roads, and take steps to avoid accidents caused by traffic disruptions.

Addressing the issue of stray dog sterilisation, he claimed that rabies cases were increasing due to inadequate sterilisation efforts. He questioned whether a monitoring committee had been established to oversee the process and urged officials to ensure proper tracking of sterilised dogs.

Representing the councillors, Rajkumar pressed these demands before the Corporation officials, calling for immediate action on the issues raised.
