The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) that came into force on January 7 following the announcement of byelection to the Erode (East) Assembly constituency was lifted on Monday following the declaration of results.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) in a communication to Archana Patnaik, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and Secretary to Government on Monday said the results have been declared by the Returning Officer (RO) and hence the MCC has ceased to be in operation with immediate effect. The CEO in a letter to the District Election Officer and the RO asked them to disseminate the information to all the heads of departments under their control.
