Mayor inaugurates Jeppu enclave developed by Mangaluru Smart City Ltd

Mayor Manoj Kumar inaugurated an enclave comprising a primary health centre, a veterinary hospital, eight flats for Mangaluru City Corporation staff, a bus bay and a walking path at Jeppu in Mangaluru on Sunday.

Mangaluru Smart City Ltd. (MSCL) has developed them under the smart city mission at a cost of ₹5.85 crore.

Speaking on the occasion, Mangaladevi ward councillor and a former Mayor Premanand Shetty said the bus bay will be used by city buses operating to and from Mangaladevi temple. The buses currently operating from in front of the temple will shift their operating location to the enclave soon. The corporation will hold a meeting with city police, RTO and city bus operators to decongest the road in front of the temple.

Mr. Shetty said the Jeppu Primary Health Centre (PHC), which has been providing a range of health care services in the area, will shortly start functioning from the new building in the enclave. With the cooperation of Father Muller Medical College (FMMC), the PHC will resume providing maternity services in another 15 days. The institution will provide the homeopathic treatment form the new building.

Under a tie-up with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Srinivas University will provide physiotherapy and dental treatments in the PHC in another 10 days, he said.

Mr. Shetty said eight two-bedroom flats were meant for B and C group employees of the corporation. In addition, 12 more flats will be constructed for B and C group staff in the enclave. Basic facilities have been provided for the new veterinary hospital where surgeries will also be done in future.

According to the MSCL, the PHC is spread over 1,200 sq. m. It has on the ground floor allopathy, homeopathy and physiotherapy sections, dental clinic, laboratory, emergeny ward, record room and a hall, doctor’s room and a waiting room and pharmacy section. On the first floor of the PHC there are maternity and sterilisation rooms, dialysis unit, surgery and wards.

The veterinary hospital spread over 240 sq. m area has an operation theatre, pharmacy, domestic animals’ treatment section, cattle room and doctor’s room. The bus bay is 110 m long and 11 m wide.
