The Mangaluru police have disabled operation of a walkie-talkie that was allegedly stolen from a police vehicle when a Sub-Inspector was clearing a mob while he was on night patrol in Ullal police station limits recently.
In a complaint, Ullal Police Sub-Inspector Dhanraj said on January 22 that he took the walkie-talkie marked “Beat-3” and joined the team of South Sub-Division police that were on night rounds near Pumpwell Circle. After taking pictures with the team, Mr. Dhanraj was returning in the jeep towards the Ullal Police Station.
As he approached Global Market building in Kallapu around midnight, the officer saw a big group assembled near the building. He left the walkie-talkie in his jeep and went to clear the crowd. When he returned to his vehicle, the officer found the device missing. He searched for a week and filed a complaint with the Ullal police station on January 30.
Meanwhile, the police said that soon after registering the complaint, they disabled the SIM in the stolen device, which has been switched off following the theft. Hence, it cannot be used for unlawful and anti-national activities. If the device is turned on, the police can trace it, the police said.
