Man hacked to death near Coimbatore

A 42-year-old man was hacked to death near Chinniyampalayam in Coimbatore on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Mahendran, a native of Tiruvarur.

The police said the incident took place in a house at Teachers Colony at Chinniyampalayam, where Mahendran had been staying with a woman, namely Vanipriya, 38, a mother of two children.

According to the police, Vanipriya had been living with her daughter, son and Mahendran, after getting separated from her husband Prabakaran, 40, of Tiruvarur. However, Prabakaran and Vanipriya were yet to be separated legally, said the police.

Prabakaran went to the house around 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday when Vanipriya, her son and Mahendran were present. Her daughter had left for school.

Prabakaran had a fight with Mahendran and he hacked him with a sickle. He also assaulted Vanipriya with the weapon and escaped with his son, said the police.

While Mahendran died on the spot, Vanipriya was admitted to a government hospital.

Peelamedu inspector L. Kandaswamy said the woman’s condition was stable and the police were on the lookout for Prabakaran.
