The Coimbatore District Police arrested a 56-year-old man on the charge of murdering his wife’s alleged paramour near Karumathampatti on Monday.
The arrested has been identified as R. Murugavel, a native of Kattumannarkoil in Cuddalore district, who had been working as a cook in a private hospital’s canteen.
The police said Murugavel and his wife M. Sumithra, 45, had lived in a house at Kundadam near Dharapuram in Tiruppur district three years ago where P. Muniyandi, 39, of Poosaripatti in Karur district, allegedly developed an affair with Sumithra. Murugavel and family moved to Vadugankalipalayam near Karumathampatti a year ago, after coming to know about the alleged affair, said the police.
According to the police, Murugavel found his wife with Muniyandi when he returned home after work on Monday evening, which in turn led to a quarrel between the two men. As the fight escalated, Murugavel stabbed Muniyandi with a knife on his chest. As Muniyandi ran out with the knife thrust into his chest, the woman locked her husband inside the house and went out to help him. She pulled out the knife from Muniyandi’s chest, leading to excessive blood loss.
Though Muniyandi was rushed to the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival. The Karumathampatti police arrested Murugavel late on Monday.
