The Mahadevapura police have arrested a bike service station attendant and his associate, an autorishaw driver, and recovered 93 mobile phones, which they had stolen from people moving in and around Whitefield area.
The duo was caught red-handed after a mobile theft case reported on B. Narayanapura Road on January 15. The police tracked down the duo moving on a motorcycle near a private hospital and recovered two mobile phones from them.
The accused have been identified as Mohammed Ahmed Salman, 24, a class 7 dropout who was working as an attendant at a bike service station, and his associate Sajid Ahmed, 30, an autorickshaw driver.
The accused would give the stolen goods to Mohammed Umar Farooq, 49, a junk shop owner and Salman’s father, who would sell the phones to his contacts for a price of ₹1,000 to ₹2,000, the police said. The accused would then share the proceeds.
Based on their information, the police have recovered 93 mobile phones worth ₹30.4 lakh. The police are now trying to track down the owners of the mobile phones as the police could so far find them only 12 cases, while the rest have not filed complaints, a senior police officer said.
